I have been driving my C4 for the past three months. So far, I am pretty happy with the ride except some little hiccups here and there. Was just wondering if any C4 Owners encountered the same problem?
- Driver's window one touch auto up/down not working well, gotta press it hard
- Whining sound during acceleration
- Gear change very jerky especially from 1st to 2nd
- Loud Cycling sound from engine when idling after driving around for a while
- Speed Control Faulty appeared once when using speed limiter
- Rattling sound from gear lever cover and somewhere near the steering wheel
- Throttle not responsive
- Driver's side door cover loose
I got some information from a french website and apparently the following tip will help recalibrate the throttle and make it more responsive. It has been proven to work. Let me know your feedback.
- Sit in your car and turn the ignition on- leave it on for 8 to 10 seconds (do not start the engine!)
-After 8-10 seconds depress the accelerator slowly all the way to the floor, then up again slowly
-Wait another 8-10seconds,
-Then start the engine and go for a drive in your newly tuned C4 and enjoy the difference

hi icekhoo :-)
i've only ever driven my dad's C4 twice, so i am not sure about the other issues you've listed, but i can confirm that the driver's side one-touch power window thing - one has to press it really hard :-)
welcome to our community here!
:-)
icekhoo nice tips but sad to hear even C4 has hiccups like the C5.btw wat is the french site and do they have tips on tuning a C5?.Hope you can get your car fixed.
anyway welcome to the community of french beauties ;D

I think this is juz how it works, no problem at all actually
- Whining sound during acceleration
have, but duno your defination of the noise, bearable on my side
- Gear change very jerky especially from 1st to 2nd
Try depress deeper than what you normally do and see if its still like this. My gut feel is insufficient acceleration
- Loud Cycling sound from engine when idling after driving around for a while
Fan Belt in operation?[color]
- Speed Control Faulty appeared once when using speed limiter
[color=red]hmmm.... nvr really use this function b4.... let me go try it out
- Rattling sound from gear lever cover and somewhere near the steering wheel
could the gear lever cover be loose? Try use ur hand to adjust if u feel the looseness. As for steering, no problem here
- Throttle not responsive
Hmmm.... Comparing my previous 206 1.4L, this current ride is much better in this area. Maybe u r comparing to your previous ride.... wats was it?
- Driver's side door cover loose
If its an obvious thing, bring down and get them to tighten it, else don't bother, cos they just act ignorant to it

Pls let us knw if this really does magic.... Will be tempted to try
I am also driving a C4, don't seem to have so much problem with it so far.....

I will be going for my servicing soon, and will feedback to them on the problems I've been encountering. I was wondering if anyone have updated their ECU or gearbox software? Apparently, in Europe, there are updates available....

haven't updated anything, to my knowledge (but then, i'm not the one sending the car for servicing at AA - my dad does it, and i doubt if he asks for updates).
just to add on to my earlier post, actually i've been very pleased with the C4. i sit in it once a week (as a passenger) and i'm always very impressed with how solidly screwed together this particular unit feels. it feels much more all-of-a-piece than my present Volvo (which costs more than twice the price :-P )

Faced the gear jerk also, but it happens at a certain rev, if you keep your revs ard 3k, the jerk is not noticable.
As for the rest, yet to encounter

I think drivers are usually more sensitive to small little noise or rattle as compared to passengers. They really annoy me. I will try to get them fixed when I go for my next servicing.

They managed to fix most of the problem when I brought my car for servicing last week. Pretty happy with their service. However, I realised that they did not change the engine oil but just replaced the oil filter and top up a litre of BP Visco. Next servicing will be 20k, is it alright to service till then?

Anyone tried this yet... :P

I noticed throttle response reduce after hard driving (pedal to the metal style.. ::) ). Probably some adaptive feature... ???
Plan to try on my C5 and see if it works... ;D
I have yet to try the tuning technique but I doubt it will work on my C5 has it is ment for the C4.But I want to know more about it.And wish I can do it also.

Err... tried the throttle recalibration today... this doesn't work for C5... :P No difference noticed.
But fiddled around the C5 today, found a new thing to mod. It is simple, and I did it already, but yet to test if the idea works. If it works, will share with you all during the meetup. Not sure if it can apply to other models as well... ::)
Anyway, icekhoo, just to share.
Your C4 and the C5 probably shares the same gearbox. I got the whining sound and jerky gear change from 1st to 2nd - both I guess is "normal". Like you, I also read before that there is a software update, but not sure if AA can do it.
I'm afraid the jerkiness may shorten the life of our gearbox, so I'd advise to try to minimize it. Like Thinky said, depress the accelerator a bit more than you normally would, and the gearchange is slightly smoother.
Servicing-wise, I'm also concerned with my ride as you. So I check the dipstick regularly for signs of engine oil degrading. Intend to send it for servicing earlier the moment I start to feel comfortable...
