Hi fellow members,

I currently driving C5 3.0 and I am looking for tyres for replacement and I have narrowed down my choice as the the tyre dealers dont have Michelin Pilot Primacy which is currently used in my car.

I now have 3 choices to choose from and I want info and experience from fellow members about these tyres:

1)Michelin Pilot Preceda
2)Pirelli Dragon
3)Goodyear Eagle F1

My tyre size is 215/55/R16 and I dont know which tyres to go for as I want performance and quietness as I dont want my car to have road noise much and I need these performance tyres as they are recommended.

So guys give your view and the lasting of the tyres you guys know.If you guys got any other tyre choice do let me know ok.

Thanks in Advance.

Just a note Adam,

Performance and road noise have an inverse relationship. The more performance the tyres are, the higher the road noise. Conversely, the more quiet the tyres are the less performance they are. Just thought to clarify that point.

hi Adam :-)

i don't have direct experience with the three tyres you mentioned, that's why i have been keeping quiet so far :-)

for my C5 last time, i changed to Pirelli P7's when the tyres were due. i was happy with those and the car was not noisy as a result.

i have used Michelin Pilot Sport before in my former S80. those were also not very harsh in their ride. i have not used the Pilot Preceda though. i think if the Pilot Sports were refined, then hopefully a less performance-oriented tyre such as the Preceda would be just as quiet too :-)

sorry i have not been very helpful...

road noise usually due to thread design and material
the more "opening" the thread have, the nosier it gets, thats why aspec db is quiet, cos its blocks are small and very little opening
i on dz101 now, very good grip and relatively quiet...

No problem Voyager not everyone knows about all the tyres. But thanks for ur info.btw furry how did you know that pirelli dragon is not good in wet?.And I agree tread pattern is e player of road noise.

So furry which 1 would you recommend me to buy as you know my car is possible of hit very gd high speed.

Preceda priced @ 210
Dragon priced @ 220
Eagle F1 priced @150

And If your know any other high performance tires do let me know also.As my size is 215/55/R16 and most of them recommend high n ultra performance tires.

Thanks in Advance

since u going eagle f1, tell u wat to expect
this is a soft (relatively) sidewall tyre compared to others (uhp class)
comparing to mvx8 its harder, compared to others like preceda/dragon/contipremium..etc abt the same, but softer than eg dz101 or fk451/452..etc
recommended psi is 36, should be nice n comfy for u
i runnin 34 on dz101
check the date of mfg cos a huge batch just came in recently, lots of sizes out of stock 2005 end and early jan.
estimated lifespan should be 50k max. hardcore use 30k

for ur size
utqg 280-aa-a, speed 93w, rubber weight 24lb,  6-7.5 inch fitting, recommended 7inch rim

Yup there are 2 kinds, the ones made in Germany and the ones made in Thailand. The S$150 are made in Thaniland if not wrong.

Technically speaking, there should be no difference. So up to you. Germany ones are more exp and maybe slightly more difficult to find. Used the Thailand ones b4. No issue at all.

Hi,
Citroens rides fabulous on Michelins. The closest match to your OE fitted Pirmacy would be the Pilot Preceda. I'm using Precedas and would keep on using them. Precedas/Primacy are the top of the range Michelins for passenger vehicles. Michelins characteristics are comfort and quiteness. Took my car up to 200kmh and no roaring noise from the Precedas. Goodyear F1 are great tires too but they're more towards sportiness, high speed grips.

its amazing how some tyres like preceda, ps2, csc2 can look so simple and tame and score so well on wet tests against v-grooved eaglef1, es100, fk451, t1-r..etc ;D

german eagle is good
but tyre grip is make up of dry and wet
to get max dry grip, u need 100% contact, think racing slicks
but to have max wet grip, u need adequate water channels to pump out the water below
in tests, other tyres have shown that in dry, they own the living crap out of eagle
eg csc2, ps2
the closest direct competitor to eagle in terms of thread design is probably toyo t1-s
http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines/high_perf/t1s.html

eagle is a good compromise b/w dry and wet but expect its road noise to be slightly more pronounced after 10,000km due to its wide open water channels

just for comparisions on scale of 10 max on tyres i used/tested b4

brand/dry/wet/noise/threadlife
eagle f1 /7.5/8/7/6
fk451 /7/7.5/6/6
es100 / 7/6/5/6
dz101 / 8/7/8/8
cpc 7/7/8/7
bridgestone er30 (stock on my camry) 5/5/7/6
gr80 / 6/6/7/8

Thanks voyager. Love the Xantia to bits. ;)

You guys know any scrapyard in Singapore where I can get hold of leather electric seats? Visited Thomas once and he told me he was offered a set but no one wanted and I was too late to know. LOL!
