Hi bobztoise,
I had my 3008 for slightly over half year.
I'm not an expert but will try to share my experience.
So far, I enjoyed my ride very much, the interior is classy and the 1.6THP with 6 speed auto makes the driving a pleasure.
Small market share is not exactly bad as we have the exclusiveness.
I actually wanted to buy a C5 but negotiation fail and I ended up with 3008.
I'm still missing the C5 till today and I'm sure I'll own one someday.
I'm always checking out this forum but hesitate to post since I'm not a Citroen owner but I enjoyed very much the culture here.
Peugoet and Citroen had many things in common, they shared components including engines. Therefore, I suppose driving any of this isn't that big diff.
Go ahead to post your questions and I'm sure someone here will also chip-in.

the 3008 looks very good indeed
i have been deliberating over the 5008 and C4GP for over a week now
Been to both showrooms thrice
still not sure which way to go
the 5008 drives better but the C4GP has so much more features...

It depends what's your priority.
If looks, go for C4GP.
For driving pleasure & fuel economy, 5008 6speed AT is more impressive.
I'm getting 12km/l quite easily. 5008 should be little more due to it's size.

Actually I love to be in your position right now. The great feeling when selecting new car is hard to describe. You should take your time to evaluate and consider all factors.
Let both sales advisor know that you're looking at Citroen and Peugeot as it will work towards your advantage.
Good luck and happy shopping.

Hi Voyager,
Thanks for the encouragement.
The culture here is mainly due to your careful nurturing.
Greatly appreciated.
Hi Bobztoise,
Peugeot being the big sister co. seems to have the priority of new engine / gear box.
Citroen is more innovative and adventurous in design.
I bought 3008 because of previous car trade-in price was too great of a diff.
Good to have 2 options so that you can fall back if one fail.

Hi sq777,
Strange cos my understanding is that citroen offers a higher trade in than peugeot
At least that was what I was offered

I'm a 308CC owner, July 2010 car. Love the 156 THP engine with 6-speed... Previous car was 308 THP140 hatchback with 4-speed... the 4-speed was dreadful because it couldn't keep up with the engine response of the THP engine, and the hatch had an average consumption of 9.5km/L... now with 6-speed i can get 11+ easily and if I am well-behaved, i can get 13+km/l.
The only thing i don't like about the Pug is the suspension... Not sophisticated enough. My sis's Impreza 1.5 with front and rear double wishbones rolls less, corners better, has more steering feel yet is more composed on undulating surfaces and irons out bumps better... just that it has problem accelerating decently. Otherwise, I love my 308cc

hi bobtoize
congrats on your new purchase. Any particular reason why 5008 was chosen over GP?
i myself went to test drive the 3008 (no 5008 then) before i finally purchased the picasso. What made me choose citroen over pug (subjective ah, my own personal opinion only, not meant to hantam anyone):
why CItroen for me:
1) looks - more avant garde than 5008
2) price - citroen cheaper
3) gadgets - citroen more to play with
4) infatuation - been in love with the picasso since eons ago
cons for me:
1) gearbox - full auto vs semi (for the EGS)
2) ..................cant think of any more liao....
Oh, while the PUG sales guy was very nice and patient, i feel that the company's policy is quite inflexible. cant change leather color without topping up, and no car mats thrown in. got to pay (for me at least).

Hi sq777,
thanks
i will check the merchant out
Hi flee19,
i visited both Peugeot and Citroen about 5 times each
(i know, a little too much.. but i really could not decide either way)
in terms of features, Citroen wins hands-down
in terms of sales service, Citroen also has the edge
you are right to say that Peugeot is inflexible
however, i was unable to accept the Citroen gearbox
despite trying to sleep over it for many days
the drive just did not feel right
by the 5th trip and 2nd test drive, Citroen got eliminated as I left the showroom
it's a pity such a great car had to have a "flawed" gearbox (in my opinion)
perhaps all the bells and whistles were thrown in for buyers to compromise on the gearbox?
i would say from my 5 trips or so.. Citroen probably won the first 2 but as I visited the showroom again and again, C4GP was unable to withstand my constant scrutiny while the 5008 stood up to the test
if you test the doors of both vehicles, you should also feel the build quality of 5008 is noticeably better

5 times is not a lot to me. haha. I took almost a year to decide, and along the way, my colleague bought the 308 during one of the visits to pug.
Glad you found your true love. If the gearbox is not suitable, dun push it. At one of my visits to pug, there was a couple who sold off their EGS GP to buy the 3008 as they couldnt tahan the jerkiness. So, diff strokes...
didnt have a chance to test out the 5008 doors as it wasnt in then.
enjoy!

Hi. As a Pug driver since 2002, I have to say that both Pug and Citroen are great cars with their own strengths. Pug seems to have better build quality and drivability. Citroen seems to have better functionality and flair in its design. For the same class of model, Citroen seems to do better with comfort.
Locally, Autofrance (AF) seems to be cheaper than C & C in terms of servicing and parts even though both Pug and Citroen are using mostly similar parts.
I have been servicing my Pug at AF and my C4 at Thomas. Seems like I am biased ... But really, Pug is like my own child (1st owner) and C4 is an adopted one (2nd owner). :)

Hi all
Im planning to go for the 308 Turbo this weekend after today's COE results are out...
Most pressing question - Hows the car any problems?
Sad to see that the Pug Sg forum has closed though

Hi White,
Every car has its own unique issues.
I presume your interest is in the 'GTI' model - 308 1.6L Turbo-charged.
Apart from a few recalls in Europe to fix some minor issues, not much negative feedback about the car. It is nippy and has good response. Good for N-S driving ...
Pugs, most common problems - rattling sounds coming from the somewhere in the car after sometime ... easily overcome by switching on the audios ... :)
Go for it ...

Thanks bro.
I'm quite into audio SQ as per my existing Stream.
Tested the stock system it was ok.
Any chance of adding Amps into the stock system with probably front component speaker upgrades without disrupting those display settings on the dash?
I've seen a guy from Peugeot Malaysia which had the whole head unit swapped to something similar to the one in the VWs.
Any experienced on that? sure void warranty as I would guess

Hi White,
Personally, I have never tried to do anything that may void the warranty before ...
But I believe if you upgraded your head unit ... the build in controls for the audio and displays may no longer work. Also, I am more of a minimalist ... like things simple ... can't advise much on the audio thingy ... ;)

Deal done collection likely to be in mid sept. Few factors that make me choose the 308 over my initial interest of a Golf sport was:
Equipment level better than Golf
Panoramic sunroof -kids love it
Higher trade in price
Ready stock
Great discounts
Prof Salesmanship - he's really one of the best salesman I've met.

Congrats on your new purchase!
Agreed on the Panoramic sunroof - my kids love it too in my 307SW ...

Not done yet.... Seems like the missus prefer paying ~8k more for the 5008.
Any technical problems so far bobztoise?
bobztoise
06-12-2011, 07:06 AM
None so far
I think you can tell them you are comparing these 2 models and ask them to match the price.. I did
In any case, the difference between the 2 is certainly not a 8k gap despite the higher OMV of 5008 when I bought
Couple of areas that the 5008 will lose out:
Less storage space (I resolved it with after market holders from autobacs)
Less room in front row (due to cockpit setup) so can't cross from driver to passenger and vice versa
Everything else is identical if not better than C4GP and the drive of 5008 is certainly better
After 3+ months usage, if I had to choose between the 2 again, it will still be 5008

Oh.... That is a great idea to try to match the price of the other car. Mind if u pm me your SE?
bobztoise
06-12-2011, 08:16 PM
Ok I have sent it
To add, feature-wise, the C4GP does offer more than the 5008
And I think the C4GP also out-sell the 5008 in terms of number of units
I have seen the 5008 less than 5 times since I knew of this car but I see the C4GP probably every other day
For me, I can accept the above shortcomings because I really could not accept the gear box after 3 test drives; including 1 where I was rear passenger
Do re-visit both showrooms again and again before committing

I am waiting for my 5008, probably in Jan. Had viewed 5008, VW Touran & G Picasso but in the end decided to take 5008.
First Test Drive the 5008, was a bit uncomfortable, maybe I have never drive such a big car before, but the overall interior features gave me a unmistakable impression.
Then tried the Touran, driving comfort not bad, maybe becoz it is smaller but really cannot compare with the interior luxury of the 5008. What's more, have to wait for at least 6 months!! Their sales must be really good.
Lastly went to try the G Picasso. The Interior was comparable to 5008, or I would guess slightly better in a margin. Both GP & 5008 have the same amount of high tech features, GP has more compartments but 5008 has a wonderful headup display which is really impressive & attracted me alot.
In the end, test drive the 5008 once more. And hey, it was actually really really nice again. The whole car gave me a steady, comfort & reliable feel, which Touran lacks a little and GP came close to match it.

I think with current high COE, C&C should seriously consider bringing in non-EGS version of C4GP so bring up their sale. Many buyers were disappointed with the EGS gearbox, including myself. Therefore I chose to buy a used C4GP.

Hi, speaking of headroom, just now my colleague who sat in the front sit of my ride, was totally totally impress with the frontal view. He was so excited he took out his phone and snap away the pictures of the skyline. He said for the first that as a passenger or driver one could now view the full moon in the sky without leanig forward and bend the neck. Yup, GP has a better headroom than 5008, and definitely larger viewing angles :)

Popofinfin, so you are driving the GP? Yah, GP really has a huge front glass panel that stretch all the way to the driver's head. Actually GP was my first love, its exterior look is simply quite gorgeous as compare to many MPV. I also like the steering at first, but later felt quite awkward have turning the wheel and the centre circle remains stationery. 5008's Steering wheel on other hand is neat, simple, maybe not so exciting, but practical. I am not that tall, so did not really notice much of the headroom between these 2.

Hi,
So far, I have owned and driven quite a number of vehicles ( Conti, Jap and Korean) in my 22 years of my driving experience. Personally, I have found that driving the GP has given me quite a unique and personal kind of experience that I can't seem to be able to put it in words, especially the EGS gearbox. It is like a song that the more you listen to it, the more you will like it that kind of feeling. My wife has also commented that my GP driving skill has improved a lot and now I know how to "tame" my ride. Mastering to drive the GP properly is not a one or two days job especially I must re-learn the way to drive for this car.
I never know it was so exciting and challenging until I met the GP.
