Up, up and away!

If the cyclical predictions are accurate, probably 2014/2015 will be see the COE premiums dropping back to sub 20k range... A better time to change to a new car then...

Hi bro,

I agree with the cyclical prediction, however there are a couple of factor that can make the prediction in accurate.

1) Economic factor
2) Further changes made to the allowable vehicle growth rate.
3) New & more hiong pattern introduce to fleece motorist.

Actually what is very clear to me now is that IF anyone plan to buy a car (Regardless of used or new car) next year, he or she should seriously consider bring forward the buying decision to this year.

My guess is when GPS based ERP system is introduced, COE price will than be back to $20-30K range for Cat A.

I am quite certain prices will plummet to the $10k level once we are deep in an economic turmoil. Cat B prices may be relatively unaffected, but Cat A prices are rather sensitive to the economy.

My analysis is that it would fall to this level when we are in the second year of recession. And coupled with the huge inflow of COEs after 2014, I think we should see my prediction come true around 2015 to 2016. At least that's my hope. :)

well some will find Cat B too expensive will consider Cat A cars such as BMW, Merc, Volvo and Citroen. (<1600cc) than it won't be 10K any more, unless the difference between A&B are not great.

Yes agreed. What I meant was Cat B prices traditionally lead prices to go up, and conversely, the Cat A market leads the decline in prices too.

So, like you wrote, when those borderline Cat B bidders cannot stomach the $80k - $100k in COE prices anymore, they will consider downgrading to small-engined European makes. If enough of such people cross over from B to A, we should see the downtrend.

I am betting on 2016/7, these group of cars (2006/2007) have relatively cheap COEs, they have missed the boat in 2009, scrap now no value, likely to dereg when COE expires.

But again, more COE available in 2016/7 does not translate to cheaper COE bidding. It was forecast that there will be an increase in millionaires over the next few years, S$100k COE may be an average premium.

I guess, if LTA build a Viaduct on PIE, there will be positive vehicle growth and COE premium will decline.

Coe prices drop again.... But still in the 50k range. Anyone going to commit themselves soon with the current Coe prices?

Unless global meltdown or stock market's bear goes into hibernation, COEs look set to increase steadily but surely. Guess its time for e balm to soothe itchy butts and hands....fortunately me "sprayed" anti-itch-dote (antidote) against such itchiness...hope it lasts...haha
