Hello every1,

I can't decide between C4 & Civic. Some help here? Price quoted to me for C4 is 68k where as Civic is 69k...

I was choosing between C4 & Civic previously too.
In the end, C4 was my choice due to exclusivity and interior design.

if u want fuss free, get civic, citroen is not a brand for the faint hearted ;D

hi Orochi :-)

welcome to our community here :-)

i would echo the sentiments that have already been posted - i guess how you choose between the two depends largely on what you look for in a car, and, to an extent, your own personality.

if you could let us know more about your own priorities in a car, then that would be helpful too :-)

Thanks Voyager. Personally, I fell in love with the interior of C4, but still trying to get accustomed to the "odd looking roundish back". My concerns now are the maintenance cost should anything needs to be repaired, FC & Civic has a 5 speed gear box while C4 has only 4. In addition, the SC at Kah Motors did a far better job convincing me Civic is the better buy.... where as the SC at CnC only stressed on the low price of the C4....

end of the day u buy u drive, if u regret then its ur own fault, that should be the way u buy a car, dun buy based on wat others say

as mentioned b4, citroen is a niche brand and frenchies are known for quirky problems , if want fuss free stick to the toyota honda nissans
c4 low price? haha...at 71k compared to 72-72k for civic 1.8, up to u to decide...civic lower omv though i believe

after owning a cit for 4 yrs, i going for yet another :)

for 70k, good options are the 1.8 civic and the mazda 6 Sp 2L <--65k now!

even though both have better suspensions but somehow the handling still cannot beat a c4, or my berlingo van ;D

u consulted any sales already? else can refer u one for kah motors

hi Orochi :-)

furry's advice (as usual) is very sensible - at the end of the day, you'll be the one driving your new car, not any of us; so do buy what you think you'll be happiest with, and not buy what others (including ourselves and any other owners of other marques) advise you to buy.

unto yourself be true.

:-)

having said that, i'm sorry to hear that the sales rep at CnC was not able to give you sound reasons for buying a C4. the team is (largely) new, so hopefully their confidence in, knowledge about, and passion for, the marque will improve with time. if the best they can muster is that Citroëns are cheap, then they really don't know anything about the marque's engineering and design heritage, and they should be selling some other brand of car, or maybe have a go at selling kitchen appliances.

the flipside is, do take with a large pinch of salt what other salespeople (from other marques) tell you about Citroën ownership. it is obvious that none of them speak from first-hand experience (ie, as Citroën owners). i don't think many of them have even driven a Citroën, let alone driven a Citroën hard. they probably would not be able to identify a Citroën either.

they would also have a vested interest in spreading half-truths about the marque. in politics, there is an acronym known as FUD. FUD is often used by the Bush administration. FUD stands for Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. don't be a victim of FUD.

:-)

Thnx yall for the advice. Arranged for a test drive on a C4 soon. Most prob going for C4 instead of the Civic cuz my heart almost stopped when i opened the door of the C4 n saw the interior :o. Civic, to me, was like...mm...ok.

Btw, any1 here who has a C4 with the panoramic roof? Does greenhouse effect applies here? & how sturdy is the glass roof? Will it be a compromise for sound insulation?

Having tried all jap makes, from 1.6s to 2L to SUV..
now i'm driving the C5..

my opinion...

spare parts... not really expensive.. mechanics/workshop.. only 1 i know of (my car has no more warranty already) and all i can say is they are really good... my oil change is done every 20k.. so the cost after evening out is the same..

handling and design.. c5 looks really ugly from the outside (im driving the old model) in my opinion but the interior and features are so rich that so far no jap cars can match.. (only cefiro comes close).. handling wise... i really feel c5 is better and one of the main buying reason is the hydractive3 suspension..

depreciation.. really bad.. citroen commands really bad resale value... this is the downside...
however, the upside of it is that you can virtually go any parts of msia and not worrying about your car! :) it has been 2 years (as im driving a suv) since i've been going around msia...

end of the day, it's a tough choice but to me... i am happy that i made the switch... comfort is definitely there and most important in my opinion is freedom... after 2 yrs of refraining from visiting msia... here i am again... going msia every now and then...

cheerio!

i thinks thats in the higher speced 2L ver only
i think more sensible not to have sunroof, if u want sunroof, get the picasso
sound insulation definitely slightly affected
u can consider after mkt sunroof options

i went test civic b4, the interior is nothing fantastic
and if u actually look at the door seals and welding , civic is terrible (take a good really good look at civic wheel arches)

p.s. if u cant make up ur mind, base it upon the most important aspect of all : safety...read the following

After driving for C4 for more than a month, she never fails to make me turn my head after locking the car.
This is a kind of feeling that I doubt Civic can give me.

However, to each his own, you have to choose what's best for you.
Go for a test drive, and you'll realise that no Jap (mass market category) marque will ever bring you to Jervois Rd, while Citroen will....

Bros... I thought Civic not that fuss free right? Saw from MCF that some civic owners have been complaining about build quality... windows spoiling, creaks, etc... ::)

I think nowadays cars come with their little problems lar, at least I can say C&C has been doing well so far fixing the problems under warranty. At least so far most of the problems are minor and I don't know of any major breakdowns of citroens by the side of the road. The trouble is the wait times for parts. But C&C seem to have recently brought in a large shipment of parts, so I think things will improve with time.

(sound like a C&C staff hor... ;D I know all this cos, I visit them often to bother them to check once I feel something is amiss, my frenchie needs assurance lar... :P )

BUT my opinion... if I had to make my decision all over again at this present time, I will go for the 2.0 civic due to value for money and availability to "zhng". Wife objected then cos she said... its just another japanese car... ::)

I went for my test drive today & i liked my drive. I'm juz a newbie when it comes to how well a car performs but i felt good behind the wheel & i even requested my SC to let me go for a longer drive. The feeling is totally different frm the vios, corolla & lancer i drove b4.

With tat, I've decided to make the C4 my 1st car! :) If the loan application & COE bidding goes well, I may get my car in march. I still can't decide which colour tho. I wanted a sporty colour (other den red).

The wait is already starting to drive me nuts... ;D

I'm mentally prepared in this dept when i made up my mind to go with the C4.

Another reason why I did not pick the civic is becuz the SC from Kah Motors told me that the car will only be available in Aug, as the May & July shipments has all been snapped up = more civics on the road later on = common. I wouldn't mind paying for higher upkeep cuz my C4 is worth it! 8)

Btw, how much of a diff am I expecting? Maintenance as in the regular 10k check-ups etc?

Congratulation!! We've got another C4-er in the club.

The feeling will definitely be different when you see another Cit or even C4 on the road as opposed to Civic. Beside looking at your own, you'll tend to take a peek at others' Cit or C4 too ;D

Talking about colour, I was recommending another guy the Iridis colour.
I thought that was sporty too. Do give it some thought.

The women in my household have a saying: follow the colour combinations of the displays on fashion boutique shopfronts / mannequins, and you'll never go wrong.

Translation then possibly for us: pick the colour of the cars found in the brochures, and you'll never go wrong. :)

Had an interesting short conversation with a colleague yesterday. Understand from him that pearlescent paints (for C4, it's red, iron grey and a few others) will have deeper color lustre than metallic (iridis, etc.) and normal paints (admiral blue, etc). Metallic paint will 'sparkle' most under the sun. Normal paints are easiest to reproduce faithfully if need for repair arises.

Some minor inputs. ;)

hi TTN :-)

a warm welcome to our community :-)

it's always exciting considering what to get as one's first car - you are very fortunate that you are able to afford a new one :-)

i think it's coming to about a year since Cycle & Carriage have taken over the dealership, and their inventory would probably have settled into something approaching stability (in terms of spare parts) and i and at least a few other members here are pleased with their level of service. i can't give you exact cost figures yet, because my car is still under warranty.

however, it is entirely plausible that japanese car ownership might be cheaper.

similarly with fuel consumption - as you know, it depends on driving style and typical route network. further, the C4 1.6 has a 4-speed automatic transmission, and i haven't really kept up with what the japanese / thai / korean makers are offering (in terms of gearbox) nowadays.

the advice you might get (bearing in mind that this is a Citroën forum) would probably not be very objective - myself included :-)

as furry has pointed out in another thread, there are quite a few repeat customers here.

however, there is also a lot of choice on the market nowadays :-)

if you could tell us a little more about yourself, your needs and priorities, typical driving patterns, and the shortlist that you have come up with, we would probably be able to give you more directed advice :-)

best wishes, and have lots of fun shopping around. don't rush into your purchase :-)

Hi Voyager,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Appreciate it.
I've just bought a red 1.6 coupe this afternoon.

Just to share my joy, after the test drive and some discussion with my helpful colleagues, I decided to buy it, opting for the red colour.

Then only to realise that there are no more C4 1.6 coupe in stock and the next shipment will arrive earliest next year end feb or beginning march. Such a long wait!

As I look out from the showroom, I realised there was a red C4 on a platform for display, fully designed with all the stickers replicated from the award winning WRC C4. I ask the car agent whether is that for sale, he said no but we prompted him to ask his manager.

After some persuasion, the manager relented, the display C4 was sold to me on a discount! I was a happy man after all! :)

And here I am, into this citroen family!
