View Full Version : BlackVue and Power Magic Pro

Wondering if anyone, in this forum, installed BlackVue and Power Magic Pro? I've several concerns:

1) Warranty Void
2) How the cables are routed and connected
3) If C4 has sufficient battery storage even for a day of camera's auto parking?

Regards
Kohl

Hi Kohl,

I don't have Blackvue yet, but from what I understand,

1) Blackvue is a plug-and-play device just like a GPS, so it should not void the CnC warranty.
2) It is connected to the cigarrete power. It would be easiest to get a professional workshop to hide the cables for about $30. But if any bros here know how to DIY, I would be interested too.
3) Will need other C4 bros with Blackvue to advise on this.

Hi bros,

If you just get the off-the-shelf BlackVUE box, it comes with a power cable that can be connected to a cigarette power point in your car, however, by doing so, you will not be able to turn on the Parking mode recording feature because the power supply of that point will be cut off once you switched off your car engine. As such, if you do the installation ($30) at the local authorized auto shop (see www.blackvue.com.sg website for the list of workshop), the guys at the shop will tap the power supply directly from the car battery source behind the panel below the driver air-con control display.
My ride is 10 mth old and I have been using for the past 4 mth already. I have ever parked at Sentosa for a weekend stay at RWS without any problem. I have been advised by the auto shop owner that if I did not install the Power Magic Pro, I will need to plug out the power supply to the device if I were to park for more than 2 days. I didn't install the Power Magic Pro at that time.
Yes, the cable can be all hidden behind the A pillar provided the device is mounted at the driver's side windscreen.

Hi Ron Guy

Thanks for the feedback. I'm checking with the workshop if they could concealed the cables for C4GP.

You are right that the plug n play device shouldn't void the warranty but I'm not so sure about the power magic pro.

Possible to share some pics of your installation on the driver side of the windscreen? Thanks in advance.

Nigel

By the way, I did it at Aesmod autos. Not that I like to go Geylang, but it seemed that they are more experienced with C4GPs and it only took them 20 mins to complete the whole instalation job. 😊

Bro,

The reason for locating the camera recorder on the driver windscreen is due to the limited length of the cable?

Wondering if they would entertain customer who didn't purchase the camera recorder from them?

Thanks

Hi Kohl,
Not really, it was meant to hide all the cables. The design of our ride makes it difficult to hide all the cables if the device were to be mounted at the top center of the windscreen.
No harm calling any of the authorized shops and see if they can do it for you for a fee. I suggest you can try and call Aesmod first as they have done GPs before including mine.

Hi Ron Guy,
Just wondering, have you explored with the workshop before if it is possible to hide the cables inside the sliding sun visor? This is if die die must put the BlackVue at the center of the windscreen.

Ron Guy
17-01-2012, 12:06 AM
Yes, the guy at the shop said it was not possible to hide the cables if placed at the center.
I am ok with the side after he showed me that the angle can fully cover both sides of the A-pillar.

If I'm installing one, I am considering it to be installed in the center, in front of the rear view mirror. I don't mind that the wires can be seen so long it can be tucked neatly at the side of the 'track' for the mirror.

Are the wires thick?

Normal USB cable thickness.

I installed the camera on the top right of the windscreen. Able to capture the full front view as the lens is wide enough...

I didn't install the power box though. If I ever have to leave my car for more than a week, just unplug the plug!! :)

Ron Guy

Hi raid,
No, mine is the DR350 non-HD model. There wasn't a HD one for BlackVUE yet when I bought the device.
Yes, the quality is not as good as the HD one and sometimes if you are traveling fast, you won't be able to see the car plate number clearly in front. I believe the HD one will be much clearer. I might be considering changing to a HD model later and switch the current one to the rear.
For us to change is quite easy. Just plug out the popiah and insert in the new one. The mounting and power supply are all the same.

Just collected mine today. Also clarified that although there's warranty for the popiahs, it's not local warranty. If I need to claim, I still need to send it back to Korea via him. And I have to bear shipping fees of $20.

So, that ebay deal is probably the best now.

He recommended Kakit Bukit initially but the workshop decline the shop with the reason that they don't recommend for C4GP due to the large panoramic windscreen.

I am installing only 1 per car. If I'm not wrong, the rear installation should cost $60, because they need to extend the cable.

Btw, do remember to tell them how you want the popiah to behave after the ignition is off. I wanted it to totally shut down, so it was tapped to the audio power. If you want it on for Parking Mode, I think they will tap direct to the battery.

But radio will turn off instantly when engine is off, no? Sorry, you may be right. I'm super lousy in electrical and engineering. typically radio is kinda on "standby" when power is off, that's why there is the blinking red light cause it acts as a car alarm system (the horn and stuff) for most cars.

So alarm systems and these types of parking systems are usually linked to the radio power, but of course I am not a certified installer and I may be wrong la... hahahaha

I am not related to xavier. It just happen that both of us share the same surname.

Hi, from Xavier, it would be $360. From Ebay, it may be $70 - $80 cheaper before postage. Installation is separate, at $30 - $40.

I checked with one of the authorize dealer here, he quoted ~$600++ for DR400 (currently no stock) inclusive of power magic pro & installation!

The price varies wildly. The shop that installs my BV is retailing the DR-400G at $560, inclusive of the PMP and installation.

Now at Blackvue website for DR-400G with Power Magic promotion price at $530. Is this a good deal?

I am also checking out Caidrox CD3000 from ZMC, any review?

Notice no one has replied yet.

Yes, I have seen such a cam before being sold at some forum I can't remember now, but the screen isn't too big to begin with. And I am not sure if the RCA plug of the RVC is connected directly onto the screen; if it is, it will sure look untidy.

Honestly, installing a RVC on a Picasso is no different from any other higher end Jap car. The access to the tailgate piping and removal of the plastic panels don't look any more complicated than on my old Ody. Also, the fuse aren't any more complicated. As long as the don't touch the electronics, I think any reputable workshop can do it. Question is, are they willing if you don't buy anything from them.

Hi folks

If I install the car dvr and have it tap to the car battery for surveillance eg: using power magic etc, it wouldn't void the C&C warranty right?

Has anyone been warned about it?

Hi Vokolyn,
My BlackVUE power was being tapped directly from the car battery for the purpose of parking surveillance mode.
So far, C&C did not say anything when I go for my 10k and 20k servicing.

Trying to decide between the Finevu cr300 or blackvue dr-400 model. The blackvue seems to have problems with overheating or stability.. but has inbuilt GPS that could be a fun thing. .

Hi

I am very tempted to get one. Can anyone share with me what is the different in getting a 16GB and 32GB? Also is Power Magic good enough or better to upgrade to Magic Pro. I am thinking of getting the 16GB and just buy a 32GB memory card (or even 64GB) in Singapore. The price different is around $50.

16GB records about 5hrs worth of video at full res. I guess 32GB doubles the recording time.

Hi Nextreal,

I just got a in-car recorder and was thinking of going to 833 motorsports for installation. Can i check if your power source is tapped from the battery or from the IU? If from battery source, is a complicated process? one installer rec tapping from the IU which means the recorder which is supposedly less complicated. Thanks

hey does anyone have the same prob, this morning when i parked at my company, i left the car at 8.25am, then on 17.45 when i go get my car, the cranking sound of car sound weak, then i heard the blackvue start up sound. so i jus brought back the memory card and check, and notice tat the blackvue had shut down since 9.30, till i fetch my car. so i presume is the magicpro sense tat my car battery is runnin low, so it off my blackvue.. i guess its time to change my battery? but its only 1 yr old

skyc88, great that you can monitor your battery lifespan through your blackvue. Our stock battery dies off without any signs. From fellow forumers, it could happen anytime after 12 months. Mine happened on the 18 months. Without signs! Imagine the hassle to crank and replace the battery immediately...

Trying to install Power Magic on my own but am stumbled by the Fuse Layout in owner handbook not matching the actual fuses. Fuse F7 is supposed to be for interior lamps, but after taking it out found the interior lamps stayed on. Also, cannot find a metal point to anchor the ground. Anyone who have done it and take a picture of how you wired your Power Magic. Much appreciated.

wnichola
26-09-2012, 07:19 PM
Finally done the install. For the Battery wire, used the Display Panel, Radio, etc. fuse...should be F8, for the Activation, there is actually a little hole in the fuse panel to plug this in. It near the HS fuse and not for plugging in a fuse. To find this, you need a power tester where it is off when the car key is on off, and power on when the car key is on on. Finally, for the ground wire, you would need to take out the side panel (not as difficult as it looks) and anchor it to the chasis of the car (through a screw)...

When I've time, will take photos of the install.

Hope this would be useful for others who would be keen to do their self install for their power magic.

I DIY because it gives me the opportunity to learn more about the ride I have...now I know which panel on the dashboard don't even need to pull the plug and can be opened. This knowledge is causing my brains to go into overdrive on other projects I can do with the C4GP...:)
