Okay.. I think I figured that sound out... its the parking brake!!

I get this burning smell in all my new cars. I deduced that it's the smell of new parts being worn in - be it excess wax on certain parts of the car, totally new brake pads, oil on the clutch on EGS gearbox, etc. It should go away within 500km of drive.

The sound of the parking brake is very distinct, and it comes from the front passenger seat.

On the Exclusive, there is also a hollow hum when you switch the key to the "on" position without cranking the engine. It should be the sound of the air suspension self adjusting. The sound comes from the rear.

Lastly, the sound of that winding down is similar to that of an aircraft powering down it's engine. It can be heard after the car is left idling for around 20 sec or so, depending on how hard you were driving. I thought this is the turbo scroller winding down or some fan related to the intercooler.

Let us know..
Hi Ram Ram, I highlighted this in another thread. It seems to be due to excessive alternator load. Perhaps switching on too many electrical systems in the car with too low an idling speed.

If you are one of the affected, try switch to Neutral gear and tapping on the accelerator. If the surging feeling stops, then it's most likely the idling speed is set too low. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the gears or engine mounts.

Just a tot, Are there any issues with changing from D to Neutral often ? Does it cause wear and tear to the gears unnecessarily ?

i've heard various thoughts about this question over the years.

personally, i usually shift to N if i can see that the line of cars in front is not going to be moving for a while. then i just hold it on the handbrake.

what you try not to do is to shift to N while the car is still moving.

i had the same issue when i picked up my car in oct... over the last 4 months, the effect slowly wears off.... i didn't do anything to it, nor did C&C

When the peculiar condition occurred, I switched the gear to Neutral and the 'surging' stopped. Hopefully, the 'ECU' will adjust accordingly in the very very near future. Thanks!

Finally I got my new C4GP EGS (Nicolla) on 18 Jan, been driving for about a week. Installed my window tint at V Kool Sin Ming yesterday, pretty good films, can really tell the difference in heat reduction. Mileage for the past week seems to be quite bad (8.4km/l on the meter), just changed from RON95 (first full tank) to RON 98. Seems like RON98 does make a difference to the feel.

On RON95 seems like shudder and vibrations are quite apparent, on RON98 less or completely no shudder and vibrations. During rain the wipers do judder a little but I guess it is quite normal, Car does surge between gear 1 and 2 or even just within gear 1, however it is very likely due to clutch engagement as it is "manual" based on exprience and "feel".

Not sure about the mileage between RON95 and RON98. Will check it out during this pump. BTW I am on EssoMobil if you are curious.
