Default Pug 508

Auto France launching the 508 on the 25th May. Let's see how they price this against the C5. OMV is higher than C5 for sure.

Default Test driven both 508 and C5

I am a potential buyer of the new C5 1.6THP...had test driven both C5 and latest Pug508....the C5 beats Pug508 handsdown...in fact Pug508 feels at best like a Camry or similar...the interior and drive simply cannot match up to C5...although i have yet to make my decision on C5, to potential buyers of Pug508..pls forget it...it's disappointing...

Hi TSC, i am surprise as both using the same engine.. Kerb weight is about the same or maybe 508 is lighter. What about space of rear leg room and head room. You mention in terms of power C5 is better , what about comfort and drive dynamic. 508 interior looks posh from ad.

hello Explorer,

the C5 is 90 kg lighter than the equivalent 508.

the wheelbase of the two cars is identical.

the C5 is 2.7 cm taller than the 508.

as for comfort and driving dynamics (i'm biased, of course) but let's put it this way:

in Europe, the 508 is sold with two suspension-types, namely

(1) MacPherson struts with steel springs (those are the cheaper models of 508)

(2) double-wishbone with steel springs (only for the 508 GT).

in Europe, the C5 is sold with two suspension-types, namely

(1) double-wishbone with steel springs (those are the cheaper models of C5)

(2) double-wishbone with Hydractive III+.

in Singapore, the 508 (even the more expensive Allure version) is sold with:
- MacPherson struts with steel springs.

in Singapore, the C5 is sold with
- double-wishbone with Hydractive III+.

in other words, the 508 in Singapore is brought in with the low-end suspension system, which according to Peugeot's OWN pricing-system, is inferior to double-wishbones with steel springs, let alone double-wishbones with Hydractive III+.

:-P

hello Explorer,

on today's Straits Times, page E28, there's a write-up about the 508.

it's by Senior Motoring Correspondent Christopher Tan.

the answer to your question about how the 508 and the C5 match up in terms of comfort and driving dynamics, is in the second-last paragraph of that article.

it reads:

"The C5 has the same sporty performance. But it offers a more pliant, comfort-biased ride"

Hi Voyager, thank you for your info. I have read it. I guess in terms of power I might have to test it myself. From what i knoe the 508 is better in rear legroom although both share the same wheel base.

i'll just raise another point (feel free to ignore it if it's not an important factor to you, or if you discover i'm giving you outdated information :-) )

i believe (unless the specifications have changed) that the C5's two front seat-backs have double-articulation, meaning that for the portion of the front seat which supports the back and shoulders of the driver and front-passenger, that portion is divided into a lower half and an upper half (which supports the shoulders) - i am not talking about lumbar support, for which both cars have four-way adjustable lumbar-support.

in other words, for the C5, the upper backrest can be brought forward independent of the main backrest, to support the front-passenger and driver's shoulders.

for the 508 (even in Allure trim) i saw today that it was a single-piece backrest.

(if this turns out to be out-of-date information on the C5, i apologise, please feel free to ignore it).
