i was just wondering if our issue is caused by weak batt. it just went thru my mind that there is a squence when it(gear-less-ness) usually happens.
-bad jam
-stationary while car is running, like waiting in the car with aircon on
so while all this is happening, the dynamo is not running, therefore not charging the batt. in fact probably draining the batt too.

then it got me thinking that,
-gearbox needs eletricity to run
-magnetic valves that control the gears needs eletricity to magnetise too

so the next time my car is throwing tantdrum, i will try to switch off the aircon and see if it makes a difference if less eletricity is used
"lucky" i do not have the chance to try yet.....

i asked about your batt as mine is original since 2007 and after 75K. so looks like its way over due. one mechanic said that original batt do last alot longer than replacment ones, and it is not possible to replace with the original batt even at cNc.

i also wanted to test the voltage of my batt to check its health, but not free so far....

btw my comments are of no technical knowledge, pure speculation

Hi AE121. The problem you describe is bugging me for about 2 years. Other members have also experienced it, I think, in more or lesser degree (see threads 'Gearbox Problem' in C4 and 'C4 (2008) gear change problem' in technical Q&A. As it does not always happen, it is quite difficult to 'reproduce' with a CnC mechanic. I had software and multifunction switch changed. I doubt if it is a battery issue as RoyceC mentions; mine (originals) last about 1.5 years and had jerk also after replacement. After Internet searches, my next try will be to ask CnC to look at the mountings at next servicing (as so farI do not experience it a lot as I mostly do expressway driving).

hi All,

it is confrimed not caused by eletricity.
I was able to duplicate it by idling for about 15mins.

Anyway jobu, there is quite a few engine mounting. i changed the one on driver side which is easily seen. I do suspect i have another mounting that is worn as today there seems to be more vibration on the steering. Will be at TnP tomorow morning to check it out...

Short Update...
as what i had guessed it was a worn mounting again.
i had my gearbox mount replaced today. So far so good.. i allowed my car to idle for 10mins and no problems at all.(so far)

My engine was actually about 1-2 inch lower than normal as the mount has totally got out of shape. the mount is not directly visable

Some observations before the change.
-light to medium vibration of steering wheel
-knocking sound behind radio console when starting engine/idling/cruising
i think my case was quite bad as on monday my car(from the inside) sounded like a boxer engine(WRX)
-car does not move forward at D1, and when acelerater is depressed, it revs then suddenly jerks/slight wheel spin and moves.

After change, glad to say all the above is gone. will update over weekend.
