Problem was fixed by replacing the compressor control valve. The aircon is as good as new now! Hope it lasts .....

Did it at Tomika at Ubi, $280.00+GST. The Boss said that often, replacing the control valve will do instead of replacing the entire compressor. Did some research and the control valve basically performs the same functions as the electro-mechanical clutch on lower-end compressors but does it by sensing pressure differences in the circuit.
