Default citroen C5 1.6 THP vs Skoda Superb 1.8

hi all,

will be considering this 2 models.
does all C5 1.6 THP model comes with the 'air carpet' suspension or only for exclusive model?

it seems like C5 is good everything on paper except the power, storage space and handling lose to skoda superb 1.8.
any other stuffs that needs to take note of for C5 1.6 THP?
and does this model drink like water as i am working in downtown..will be jam frequently during peak hours.

lastly any C5 1.6 THP owners going to offload their ride soon in few months times? preferably year 2011 though.

thanks alot.

Only the exclusive model has the hydropneumatic suspension. Real world consumption is ard 10 km/L.

hello chinablue,

to tell whether it has the suspension or not, see if the unit has an electronic parking brake.

if it has, you're safe.

i wish you every success in finding yourself a unit :-)

Thanks a lot for replies. Will check it out at 2nd hand dealers.
Btw any common parts in this model that will fall apart after 5 years?
Does this model run on timing belt or chain?
Thanks a lot!

chain

failures:
usually lower control arm
oil leaks
high pressure fuel pump
turbo

interior storage space and handling and power really a big diff from the superb
but 2009-2012 superb mostly suffer from piston ring problems (oil consumption), make sure dealer willing to undertake overhaul job if needed
6k
mechatronic unit 3k
clutch 2k

unless u die hard citroen lover, personally i would get the superb

these 2 u can see, i didnt see them

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/i...551030&DL=1180
this specimen dont bother
replica 19 inch rims, bad condition paintwork
and brake system fault and engine very heavy vibration
prob 10k of major work needed, include the engine overhaul

thanks for the info furry.
the one at bkt batok.can't physically see anything wrong with the car but mileage was high at 170k.

are you looking at c5 as well, there's another unit posted today selling quite cheap also.

6k above paper value, i wonder what's the catch for this, most likely to be very high mileage and the 1st owner dispose off before things start falling apart.

i think getting a c5 1.6 thp is more wallet friendly compared to 1.8 superb.
maybe next ride i might change to superb when i have higher income. : )

btw, is there huge difference in comfort level between the hydropneumatic model and non hydropneumatic model?

The C5 is good. But can't really survive our climate.
Things does fall apart.

U need deep pockets if you are going with CnC.
They don't diagnose the fault by experience.
They do silly things as well, eg switching to thinner engine oil in a well run in engine. Basically following what the principal instructions.

Equip yourself with a trustworthy mechanic or workshop if you are buying a C5.

The magic carpet suspension is addictive. Even a newly delivered A6 can't absorb the road bumps as compared to a C5.

Good luck in searching for an ideal unit.

>> both have pro and con, u can look at passat b6 1.8T with 6speed Aisin automatic, 09/10 models, very very reliable and bullet proof. mine still look as good as new and drive like new

>> depend u like soft soft or firm (german style)
the soft soft one is quite rolly due to the weight

Hydractive 3+ was introduced to reduce the roll.
