Question Tick-tick sound when cold-starting car electronics

I am hearing tick-tick sound when starting the car electronics, i.e. turning the key half way to turn on the electronics and self-diagnostics, even before starting the engine. The sound appear to come from the undercarriage.

Without properly timing it, I estimate each tick is spaced about 4-5 seconds from each other and last for a total of about 9-10 ticks before it stops completely. At first I had thought it would stop when the aircon starts blowing but when I tried without turning on the aircon, the ticking will still stop.

This appear to happen only on cold start. It will not happen if from a running engine, I turn off the car and try to replicate it.

Anyone has any idea what this weird mysterious ticking sound is all about?

Sent my car in for checking today. Turns out the ticking sound was due to broken aircon shaft. They had it replaced and I am happy with the service. Thought I should update here.

If not mistaken, is just below the driver seat rear aircon coil...when this happen , does your aircon kick in much later after you start your engine?

Yes. After repair the air-con comes on much earlier. I am not sure where the aircon shaft is located but the sound did come from somewhere below the driver's seat.

Thanks.

Thanks for the information.

I went to one of the car air-con workshop at UBI yesterday, they said does not seems to be aircon shaft, I would need to leave my car there so that they can check in detail... sigh.

The symptom is exactly like what you said. Knowing your repair cost, how I wish it is just the aircon shaft now.
