Default Going to buy a 2nd hand 2011 C5 1.6A...

Hi guys I am currently looking at a 2nd hand C5 year 2011 model.

I have a few questions.

1) What are the common defects/problems that I should be looking out for? eg. aircon compressor? weird sound from engine?

2) Where do you guys go for servicing? Agent or outside workshop? If outside workshop, can I have the address and an estimate of the cost of servicing? Heard horror stories of how expensive a continental car servicing would cost, and spare parts not easily sourced. Please enlighten me on this.

3) How many years of warranty does it comes with?

This is the first time I am buying a continental car. Many of my friends advice me not to buy as the cost of servicing is high and spare parts are expensive too. Like to know from fellow owners here what you all think.

Thanks!

1) read through all the threads in the c4 picasso and c5 section , especially on the engine

2) if in doubt, go back C&C

3) 3yr/60k

yes your friends are right

how committed are u on this purchase, or just see see look look
its how u want to look at the glass, half full or half empty

stress again : see point 1) above and know what you are getting into, there is too much info on the engine to summarise in one post, do take some time to do reading homework

I happen to be the owner of a 2011 C5 Exclusive.

So far, I've driven Toyota (Cressida, Corolla), Honda (Odyssey, Civic, Jazz), Mazda 3 and Peugeot 308. I still love the C5 most.

read these few threads

summary,
1) turbo direct injection engine = prone to carbon buildup and sensitive to petrol
2) if u pump msia petrol > 50% the time or 100%, this car is not for u
3) ron 98 ideally
4) make sure you change your oil on time ideally at 7500km
5) check your coolant level frequently, every 2 wk ideally

if u run good oil, 98 local petrol, check oil/coolant level frequently, this is a cracker of a car
one of the best value for money conti mid size sedans around
the main prob is just the co-developed bmw block needs some little extra loving, like all bmw/minis

april 11, no mileage listed, balloon scheme...u have to drive till scrap leh...balloon scheme is for...3-4yr left drive till scrap type leh

better consider other options or the 2.0 comfort model from 08-09..its a safer bet by a long way
sadly seems...not many on mkt..c5 getting all snapped up

hello bendi :-)

welcome to our community :-)

dtech has given you some very wise counsel already.

please do not allow anyone (yourself included) to rush into the purchase - i second dtech in saying that you must know what you are going to be owning.

the forum threads here represent a wealth of knowledge accumulated over the years, please take your time to slowly go through, and to use the forum's search engine.

sincerely,
ken

Also, are all the 2.0 confort is on the AL4?

hi RoyceC :-)

all 2.0L are the AL4 (Confort or Exclusive)

as for the visual differentiation, the easiest (most reliable, as well as fastest) is to look for the chrome strip running along the entire windowline of the car.

(there are other things such as the headlamps and the wheels, but at a glance, not so easy)
