Default Citroen C6 Arrival Date ?

hi guys,

i have had a lot of queries about the C6 s arrival date, this is my take on the matter.
AA was supposed to have brought the C6 by june 2006 but because of the uncertainty caused by C n C and Sime Darby making a pitch for citroen distributorship in singapore,AA plans for the C6 have been put on hold.

my personal opinion for these two major players making a play for the Citroen brand now is mainly because of the competition that the C6 will provide to the Merc 200 series and the BMW 5 series.

The C6 is indeed an exceptional beauty and i see it giving the above a run for the money.
Pricewise nothing has been finalized and i feel it is going to be a bit tricky as the OMV for the C6 with full specs is in the region of 80 to 100 k .

Dealershipwise nothing has been finalized as well and as far as i know as of today AA still has the Citroen brand until june 2006

i will keep all of you updated on any latest development regarding the dealership and also the arrival of the much awaited C6 as soon as possible.

thanks and have a great week ahead

regards,

jude

Thanks Jude.

I guess this clears up some of the "fog" w.r.t. on these 2 major issues.

really appreciate this, jude :-)

if i might just add:

let's take an OMV of $80000.

well, the Mercedes CLS350 has an OMV of $78000 and it costs $290000.

umm.... much as i love the C6 i would not and cannot afford to pay this much for it.

to take another example (to circumvent the excuse of Cycle & Carriage mark-up), the Volkswagen Phaeton has an OMV of $63000 and is sold for $240000.

so no matter which way one cuts it, the C6 (assuming OMV of $80000) will cost significantly more than $250000.

i think like that very few people, even us fanatics, would buy a C6. (and don't even think about conquest sales from other marques at that price)

(and i know CitroŽn has gone on record as saying they are not after volume sales with the C6)

i think the Phaeton is a good exemplar. it's not got a prestige badge, neither do we. so just look at how many Phaetons one sees on our roads. and that is factoring in the Phaeton's superior build quality compared to the C6 (i know, because i've fiddled with the C6 at Geneva 2005, 2006 and Frankfurt 2005).

the other thing about the Phaeton, is that the step-up to its price is scaffolded by cars such as the Jetta (at just under $100000), Passat, Passat Turbo, and Touareg.

this is not the case for CitroŽn in Singapore, where there will be a giant gap between the C5 2.0 at just under $100000, to the C6 3.0 at > $250000.

further, when the facelifted C5 was first introduced here, i remember its price was $125000. that price has fallen and fallen, faster than the falls in COE. yet the car, as we all sadly know, remains an extremely rare sight on our roads - much more rare than the pre-facelift C5.

erm... i'm not trying to burst anyone's bubble here - far be it, because i really am a fan of CitroŽn in general, and the C6 in particular.

i just hope that the C6 can be made more affordable in Singapore.

i think all of us here would love to see a return to the glory days of the Large CitroŽn in Singapore :-)

Hi all,

Pls look into the link below

http://www.channel4.com/4car/feature...itroen-c6.html

UK has estimated it to be cost about 30K pounds and the C5 in Uk is selling around 18K pounds. Assuming C5 is selling at AA for S$94K (Including COE). The C6 should be in the range of S$160K and anything more than that based on Citroen underrated reputation in Singapore....people will opt for other German marques.....

Pls comment.......

great stuff, canterbury.

i've arrived at precisely the same conclusion ballpark figure as you.

i did so based on the Euro prices in France, and cross-estimated against the Pound Sterling prices.

thusly, i concluded that the C6 would cost around $160000 in Singapore.

this to me is a much more palatable figure, as well as being much more realistic, because it is cheaper than the German opposition (Audi, BMW, Mercedes).

(and please don't tell me that "oh, the C6 is a three-litre, so you should compare it against the E280, 530i and A6 3.0 quattro". we all know that any Singaporean who would be open-minded enough to consider a C6 would only be comparing it against the bread-and-butter E200K, 523i and A6 2.4)

this sounds like a much more realistic estimate to me, and it's good and interesting that canterbury and i should have arrived at the same conclusion independently.

okie, here's some more research:

i went to CitroŽn.fr (since the C6 is not officially on sale in the UK yet).

now, we don't have to bring in the C6 Exclusive (Eur 51800) in Singapore. we can just bring in the base C6 (Eur 41900)

assuming, from jude's post ("C6 with full specs"), that the C6 Exclusive has an OMV of $80000, the base C6 has an OMV of $64700. that puts the base C6 on par with the Phaeton (!), ie, a max price of $240000 (which is still way too high for a CitroŽn in Singapore).

but we all know that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

for example, the Phaeton that we get in Singapore, costs GBP45630 in the UK (the 3.2 LWB). but we know the UK estimate for the C6 is GBP30000 (this is well publicised in the UK motoring press and is not pulled out of a hat). so, this suggests that the C6 in Singapore would cost $157725.

you see, that figure of $160000 keeps cropping up.

still from CitroŽn.fr, the following are how the specifications of the three trim levels of the C6 are differentiated in France.

the middle trim level - Lignage - has the following equipment over the base C6:
- head-up display
- front and rear parking sensors
- electrochromatic mirrors
- 18-inch wheels

i must say that i like the specs of the Lignage, primarily because if one is paying so much money, one kind of expects electrochromatic mirrors and parking assistance (please don't tell me to fit aftermarket ones :-) i like the visual feedback from the originals).

the Exclusive trim level adds the following over the Lignage:
- lane-departure warning
- alarm
- electrically adjustable front seats (adjustable over five axes instead of the standard three)
- heated seats
- seat memory
- garnissage cuir (leather garnish?)
- laminated glass
- navigation and JBL
- metallic paint

i can't speak for all the potential C6 owners here, of course, but at least for me, i don't need the specs of the Exclusive :-)

hee hee... sorry i keep appending and appending this post :-P

here are some cars and their prices in Singapore (source: http://www.carma.com.sg/ not clear whether COE incl.) :-)
- Alfa Romeo 166 3.0 $162800
- Chrysler 300C 3.5 $155999
- Hyundai Azera 3.3 $103000
- Lexus ES300 $150888
- Nissan Cefiro 350JM $108500

okie.

the Peugeot 407 Coupť (which is built on the same production line as the C6) is finally in Singapore :-)

the more expensive version is selling for $164900, inclusive of COE.

in France, this same model sells for EUR37700.

the C6 3.0 sells for EUR41900 (using the price lists found in the September edition of L'Automobile magazine)

so, this suggests that the C6 3.0, when it comes to Singapore, would likely cost around $184000.

for comparison's sake, the Alfa 166 3.0 sells for $162800.
the Audi A6 2.4 sells for $188000.
the BMW 523i sells for $201000.
the Jaguar S-type 3.0 sells for $196000.
the Lexus GS300 sells for $181888.
the Mercedes-Benz E200 Kompressor sells for $179888.
the Volvo S80 3.2 sells for $177000.
(prices from 23 Sept issue of 'Car Buyer' magazine)

the 25th October 2006 edition of the german mag 'auto motor und sport' has a comparison test between the C6, the Volvo S80 and the BMW 525d.

on page 71 it has a special section of the article (which i've translated here):

SPOTLIGHT: comfort or curves - quo vadis CitroŽn?

also for professional testers there are still surprises: for the driving tests in this comparison was not - as expected - the BMW the fastest, but the CitroŽn. neutral and lightly-controllable allows itself to go around the slalom cones without problems, while the over-steering 5-series demanded more effort from the steering.

that lies in part from the standard 18-inch wheels of the C6 (compared to 16-inchers on the 525d), but above all it is to do with its electronically controlled suspension, that automatically selects firmer damping when high lateral g-forces are detected (manually selectable by the Sport button too).

it has also lost the floating feeling that earlier hydropneumatic models showed.

so is it its talent to go round curves that makes the CitroŽn desirable and incomparable? the French do what they have always done best - to swim against the tide.

(caption of the photo reads: despite being nose-heavy (62.6 %), the C6 has good handling and negligible understeer)
