Default How's DS5's deal

Hello bros. I am new to this chat group. I read about a lot of DS comments here and about 80% inclined to get DS5.

One considering the diesel vs a used one. Any advice will be deeply appreciated.

Can I ask what is the servicing and warranty period given two years ago? The new one is offering 3 yrs servicing and 5 yrs warranty.

Thanks bros!

Oh, my col driving grand Picasso just mentioned upsetting remarks that his engine gas to replace in 4th year. Scarcely to hear that.

Thanks, already feeling welcomed.

I am eying a used Ds5 THP version. But am worried about major failures like engine or gearbox. Electronics too since everything is run by it.

Should I be worried?

My current ride is Honda Odyssey.

hello Gccp,

are you looking at the one that is currently listed at sgcarmart?

it's hard to say with certainty, of course, but the photographs do suggest that it is a stock car (unmodified).

the trim level also suggests that it is a car originally from CnC (there were a few lower-spec models brought in by parallel importers last time).

my own car has not been problematic - i do know that the factory in which these cars were built was upgraded in terms of its quality control processes, before the DS 5 production started (it was upgraded specifically for the DS 5).

so the quality of the fit and finish should be fine. electronics are of course harder to predict, but so far mine has been fine.

to answer your question specifically, i would say that you do not need to be worried, but you do need to go in with your expectations accurately calibrated.

meaning that the very first time we switch from a Japanese make to a European make (any European make), there will be a cultural difference (this happens to almost all of us). the parts availability may be longer, and the cost of the parts may not be comparable (shipping etc). i also switched from Honda (but to Volvo, before CitroŽn). my dad switched from Honda to Merc (before CitroŽn). having experienced both, and having not wanted to touch BMWs or Audis, my family is very happy with my present car.

Gccp,

if you are comfortable,

you might consider joining a Facebook group, which was started by a DS 5 owner here in Singapore.

http://www.facebook.com/groups/799220553441539/

it is for any CitroŽn owner or any person interested in CitroŽns, i'm just saying that it's another place where you could seek opinions :-)

Voyager, I can see that your postings are always informative and helpful, especially to newbies. Thanks loads.

I read from UK sites that Citroen as a whole they are trying to build their image and reliability, and DS series is one of their better offerings to change that image. So far there hasn't been many in the market yet to get a feel. I guess I have to go in with open eyes.

The unit in SGcarmart is a petrol, which I prefer to diesel. I reckon I only save less than 1k per year with diesel, which isn't much for lower performance.

Thanks for your comments!!

It seems to me a 5 year warranty is very reassuring. I think u just have to purchase the service plan for 2 years with CnC after the initial 3 years to maintain warranty status. I wonder if you have also test driven both petrol and diesel units to get a better feel of things? At current price point, the finish, fit, and design is hard to beat. I wonder if your colleague is driving the old generation Grand Picasso? Many of the flaws in earlier generation cars, such as the semi-manual clutch and engine design have been improved upon in current versions. Having said that, if the experience and joy of driving an European car exceeds the worry about maintenance demands for Citroen or any Euro car, then I'd still say the DS 5 is a steal.
