Yeah, I found it strange that Anthony states grade 50 as I knew that the factory spec is 40. Anyway, I will be happy as long as I can get rid of the noise regardless of the grade.
Any owners here with noisy engines? |

It could be that the previous oil was a 30 oil. Which is actually less "noisy" cos it's less viscous. I personally do find a diff between 30 and 40 oil. Both in terms of sound and "smoothness". But for the price of a Shell 5w40, saved quite a bit of money there. And, the oil does what it's supposed to do. Lubricate and keep the engine clean.

It's due to the engine oil. For my c5 ep6cdt engine, I have tried castrol edge 5w30 C3 fst, total 5w30 ineo ecs, fuchs titan 5w40 gt1 xtl, amsoil 5W-40 (AFL), I can confidently say castrol is the noisiest. I find fuchs the quietest, most fuel efficent for me. My car consume Total to fast for my comfort. Thinking of trying millers oils xfs 5w50 next.

I'm hesitant to try 30 grade oil due to the engine consuming oil even after rocker cover, valve stem seal, oil pan seal turbo oil line, filter housing replaced/repaired. Using 40 grade oil did slow down the comsumption.
