Hi, I do have the similair problem. But it was not until i noticed that the engine oil has been leaking profusely. Is there anyone here can recommend a workshop for it? I dont go CNC, they have been charging me expensive, and each time after servicing i will have to re0visit to get some other rectification which isnt a problem prior to servicing. i really doubt their seriousness in getting our precious car properly taken care of. Thanks

the topic on the main forum board caught my eye, so popped in to kay-poh...
hi gents, 1st post here... (before we hit the ads, just sent a note to the admin to say hi).. anyway, oil pressure low is pretty dangerous because it can lead to cavitation... do a google. its always advisable to top up the engine oil to about 3/4 up the dipstick, but not sure if the new high tech cars like yours have a manual dipstick, because the BMWs we have in the shop all use 'virtual' dipstick. As for engine oil, its normal for the oil to become thinner after it get hot, epscially if u use a thin oil like wt30 and below - at 100 degC you may trigger off the low pressure switch. Important is to choose a oil with good KiV @ 100... what's that? kinematic visco at 100 deg C, a measure of film strength of sorts. at the circuit, the oil press reading is fine thorughout, even on the in-lap... only when its back in the pit-lane, the oil press warning comes on sometimes, depending on the alarm set, so understanding the 'gate-in' rpm is important... will freeload off someone else here, to save me typing the explaination (see pg5) http://www.flightsystems.com/pdf/Model995.pdf most high-end motorsports instrumentation like Stack will have a gate-in rpm to make sense of 'what' oil pressure is relevant at 'what' rpm. |
