Default change fuel injectors

Hey guys, I'm driving 1.6 diesel model.

The other day when driving, the engine light came on and I went down to Thomas'. He diagnosed for me that 3 of 4 injectors had problem, maybe clogged or smth. And to replace 1 injector is $450 (i checked with tian hua too) so, still in shock of the pricing, he wiped the errors first and told me when the warning light comes on again, it really IS time to get them sorted. he didnt charge me for consultation (bless him)

I've driven my car for about 2 weeks now since, all seems fine.

Now the questions are:

1. Am i supposed to change all 4 injectors at once? 450 x 4 = 1800 :died:

2. if injectors are clogged, will FI cleaners do the job? If yes, any recommendations?

3. I called them today to fix an appt for tmr to change oil, the partner or someone told me that at my mileage (100k), the timing belt needed to change. he quoted $500. is this normal? why jap cars like so much cheaper ah? haha

Need your advice please, kind bros

Hello,

Not sure about injector whether need to replace all at the same time or can change whichever is faulty.

$500 for timing belt is quite reasonable I think, try asking him a bit more on what is the coverage. My guess is that when he say timing belt change, he also include some pump & other items which ppl normally replace it along with the timing belt. Rationale is there is cost to pay to gain access and since the part likely will also die soon, so might as well change together.

One level up there is a guy call Michael who previously work together with Thomas. He is also very pro too. I have not been to Michael shop for over 1 year since I change car. Not sure whether he is still in biz. Can ask him for a price quote to compare too

All the best

Oh dear. I really did not know that. He is a really good guy. Super knowledgeable & hands on too.

Very very sad to hear this news.

Can you share the link to the news that mention of his passing.

Thank you

I just found the thread that talks about the passing of Michael.

Really sad to hear this. But at least he is no longer in pain. Hope that he is in a better place now.

update:

over the past 2 months, the check engine light came on again and i haven't had time to get it sorted. but the funny thing is, sometimes the light goes off and under heavier acceleration, the dreaded light comes on again. sometimes it comes on and off. so strange.

Thanks for the update. I do recommend you go to let Mechnic have a check to find out what is the problem.
