Default PSA Peugeot Citroen presents its diesel hybrid technology

PSA Peugeot Citroen introduces two technological demonstrators, Peugeot 307 and Citroen C4 Hybride HDi, equipped with a chain of hybrid traction diesel-electric. The performances of these cars mark a significant projection consumption CO2 emissions. Better, these results are obtained with an approval increased in all the phases of control and more particularly of urban use.

The performances of these cars mark a significant projection consumption CO2 emissions Better, these results are obtained with an approval increased in all the phases of control and more particularly of urban use.

The average consumption of these cars is at 3,4 L of gas oil to the 100 km and the emissions of CO2 are 90 grams per km of the "tank to the wheel". These figures constitute a record for vehicles of the segment of the average cars, the most popular segment of the European market. The profit obtained compared to a similar vehicle equipped with a hybrid chain of traction gasoline is 1 liter to the 100 km on mixed cycle is nearly 25 %.

Technology Hybride HDi associates the diesel engine HDi 1,6 L equipped with a Filtre system to Particle (FAP), a system Stop & Start (STT) of last generation and adds to it an electric motor, an inverter, batteries high voltage and an electronics of control dedicated. The transmission is ensured by a controlled manual box.

The addition of system STT allows in particular the vehicles Hybrides HDi, even in the event of total discharge of the pack of batteries high voltage, to only start and roll in thermal mode, contrary to other hybrid systems where such a case of figure involves a total immobilization of the vehicle.

Hybride HDi allows:
recuperation of the kinetic energy at the time of the phases of deceleration or braking,
an electric use 100 %, without any pollutant emission or sound (mode ZEV), for urban speeds until 50km/h,
a "wide" mode ZEV which, depending on the state of load of the batteries, will support the use of the electric power firstly.

Moreover, on road or motorway, the approval of control is improved thanks to the additional power of 35% of the electric motor which combines with that of the thermal engine during specific accelerations.

PSA Peugeot Citroen could put on the market of the vehicles Hybrides HDi since 2010. However, this introduction is conditioned by obtaining an economic equation making this technology accessible to the greatest number of customers.
Indeed, the price difference for a HDi Hybrid compared to a diesel version comparable HDi remains too significant and the reduction of half of this variation must still be obtained to return accessible the Diesel hybrid for the customer.

PSA Peugeot Citroen is given to take up this difficult challenge of the fall of the costs of these technologies, which only will allow the broad diffusion of its innovation Hybride HDi and will thus bring a true response in term of safeguarding of the environment
To achieve this goal, it is envisaged to engage:
A research task and Development deepened in the four technological fields which explain the essence of the overcost: batteries high voltage, the electric moteur/generator and the inverter, the récupératif brake
The meeting, around the project, of best competences of the equipment suppliers and the research laboratories.
Within the framework of this project, the support of the Agency of the Industrial Innovation, was requested.

To face the problem of the control of the effect of greenhouse, PSA Peugeot Citroen placed the reduction in the CO2 consumption and emissions in the heart of its produced policy. Thus, consumption and the weighted average emissions of the vehicles sold by the group are on the best world level.

Anxious to continue this virtuous dynamics, PSA Peugeot Citroen decided to capitalize its know-how in the field of the diesel engines of high technology, of which he is a world leader (more than 8 million cars sold with engine HDi Common Rail) and his historical advance in the field of the electric vehicles. This new chain of diesel hybrid traction which has been just presented combines the advantages of the HDi engine thus, with those of an electric motor for the urban use.
